Guidelines for Discerning the Soundness of Spiritual Concepts

We wish to offer guidelines for discernment of spiritual concepts. We feel that it is very important to base your life and Spiritual Path on sound spiritual concepts. Your inner self innately knows spiritual truths and incorporating false spiritual concepts into your belief system can retard your spiritual growth and hinder your life.

A significant step in returning to Divine Nature is striving to become Spiritually Mature. This requires accepting only God's teachings and moving beyond human created illusionary beliefs. Understanding what is illusionary on a spiritual path can be just as important as knowing what is truth.

New Age Misconceptions

God: In New Age the name of God is rarely used. Euphemisms such as “Source,” and “The Universe” or the “The Universal Life Force” are used in place of God. There are two main reasons for this. One, God is deemed as too religious and people do not want to live up to or be restricted by God’s teachings. Many New Age leaders prefer instead to make up their own rules and standards, attributing them to either “spiritually advanced aliens,” “higher dimensional beings,” or a diminished God of their own making. New Age attempts to recreate God through their own standards and preferences. They have replaced God with a non-specific, non-personal universal force that they believe they can learn to manipulate through their intention. The god they have attempted to create is not allowed to hold anyone responsible for their actions, or provide any moral codes or boundaries.

Two, and just as revealing, New Age people know they should not use the term God in their heart because what they are conveying and basing their life on are not God’s teachings. Many New Age people cringe at the thought of worshiping God, yet they revere "aliens" and "other dimensional beings” they have imaginatively created and built a religion around. A true spiritual path is focused on God. You cannot attach the name spiritual path or spirituality to something that shuns a true understanding of God and disavows God's teachings. Anyone who cringes at the thought of worshiping God has no true concept of God.

Using the term "source" or "universe" in place of God builds a barrier between people and God in the minds and hearts of the people who cannot acknowledge God as God. It creates deep underlying feelings of guilt and insecurity when people diminish God in their mind to a force they can attempt to control and manipulate. Lastly, it deprives people of a loving and interactive relationship with God, which is the essence of a true Spiritual Path.

People believe that they have free will to perceive God in whatever way they wish to perceive God. That is an egotistical fallacy. God defines God very explicitly in all World Scripture. People cannot disregard God's own teachings concerning God and replace them with whatever they wish to to suit their own human ego driven needs, desires, and short comings. Attempting to override God's own teachings of God and replace them with a lesser god of human making is not only the very height of egocentric negative human behavior, it can be karmatically very dangerous. God must maintain a clear and absolute understanding of God throughout the Ages so that each generation can forge a lifepath with God for the wellbeing of all people individually, and as a whole.  Eroding or tainting other people's perceptions of God to provide one's self and others with false and illusionary powers is a very serious offence answerable to God.

New Age would have people believe that there is no personal reasonability or accountability for actions, but that is heavily disputed in all 8 World Religions. Spirituality is not a game to see who can come up with the most popular new ideas next. Spirituality is the foundation of life, and at the core of a sound and viable human society.

The “Law of Attraction”: The “law of attraction” states that there is a magnetic universal force that gives people what they focus on, good or bad. Supposedly, this non-discriminative, unintelligent and uncaring force cannot recognize that negative events are not wanted. It only recognizes that the person is focused on something with emotion. New Age teaches people how to out-maneuver this all pervasive force through focusing the mind on what is wanted. This seems to work or make sense because the person is now actively seeking to make good things happen in their life. The problem is that teaching people to outwit a non-caring, unloving, unintelligent (and non-existent) universal force is in direct opposition to seeking partnership in creating your life with an all loving and infinitely intelligent God.

Why would an all loving and infinitely intelligent God create an unloving and unintelligent force to rule over people’s lives?

The “law of attraction” has another major flaw. It states that if a person is afraid or worried about something bad happening they can bring it into their life through their thoughts and emotions. For example, if a woman is afraid of being raped the “law” states that she can bring the event of being raped into her life. Consequently, because she brought the event upon herself she is to blame for the event. This teaching creates an atmosphere of blaming the victim and seemingly relieves individuals and society from taking responsibility. Instead of promoting spiritual enlightenment and spiritual maturity, and elevating society the “law” further retards the process of enlightenment and erodes empathy and compassion for victims of abuse and social injustices.

Spiritual Vibration: There is a great deal of misunderstanding surrounding spiritual vibration in New Age. New Age teaches that people can raise their spiritual vibration through manipulating their emotions. The understanding is that spiritual vibration is connected to emotion and that people can raise their spiritual vibration simply by making themselves happy. This approach is the exact opposite of what it should be. Simply doing exercises to manipulate emotions and your state of mind has nothing to do with raising spiritual vibration. The raising of spiritual vibration comes with surrender to and aligning one’s self with God. It is derived from God’s ever deepening and more complete connection and interaction. This deeper and more complete connection with God in turn brings inner peace and joy. It also creates and supports a more expansive sense of empathy and compassion and stimulates a willingness to selflessly serve God and humankind, which brings inner reward, fulfillment and true happiness.

Conversely, the New Age teachings concerning spiritual vibration states that people should actively ignore everyone who is struggling and not happy. It contends that all people create their own misery. This is in direct opposition to all of God’s scriptural teachings. By telling people to ignore all of the problems of the world and blame the victims of all social injustices it encourages selfish behavior and creates an atmosphere of elitism, apathy and insidious forms of social prejudice.

In order for something to be a “spiritual law” it has to apply to everyone equally. These New Age laws do not take into account, explain, or provide for two-thirds of the world's population who are born into poverty, war, strife, lack of basic needs and lack of education. Children born into starvation are not attracting bad things into their life through their negative thoughts, nor are they denying their bliss and creating their own misery through their emotions. The New Age "spiritual law" states in essence that actively ignoring these children, and all of the world’s problems and focusing on making yourself happy is a valid “spiritual path.” God’s teachings state that people are responsible for each other, especially for those people who cannot fend for themselves. God teaches respect and compassion for people who are struggling and provides spiritual and moral instruction to enable people to solve the problems of the world. New Age “spiritual laws” promote further separation between the people who have riches and those who do not, and encourages people to be selfish, uncompassionate, uncharitable and to shun those in need.

As long as people, individually and as a whole, allow the problems of the world to fester, all people have to share in the karmic burden of taking turns living in the deplorable conditions that selfish behavior creates and sustains.

Both of these New Age “spiritual laws” teach people to be self-centered and self-absorbed. These feel-good “make yourself happy without responsibility” teachings are seductive and appeal to the worst of human attributes. They entrap people, making them believe that they are on a spiritual path, when truly they are moving in the opposite direction by developing selfish and self-serving attitudes and attributes.

A true spiritual path has God and God’s teachings at its heart. Human derived spiritual teachings and laws are flawed when examined carefully and do not constitute a spiritual path. The teaching and acceptance of these types of self proclaimed “spiritual laws” can lead unwitting people who are unwilling to examine them carefully into unwanted karmic repercussions.

In many ways New Age is the personification of immature human egotism and rebellion against God and World Scripture. New Age people see themselves as on a spiritual path, but in reality, they are like children who play at pretending to be adults. They mimic spiritual messages out of context and do not comprehend the teachings or their significance. They do not know what it is to be truly spiritual because they deny God as God truly exists and cannot cultivate a mature relationship with God. They live in self-imposed blindness to the reality of their situation because their world is built on illusion and opening the door to reality causes their fantasy world to crumble.

New Age cultivates and sustains false egos. It bids people to invent alter egos by pretending to be alien starseeds and walk-ins from other planets and dimensions. Further, people are encouraged to "channel" and pretend they are the voice of advanced alien beings or other dimensional beings so that they can make up their own "teachings." In New Age people regularly pretend to bestow (false) powers upon themselves and each others: The power of prediction, healing, manipulation of chakras, the creation of their own reality, the manipulation of Divine Energy, and the recreation of God in their own image and desires. Their games cost them the opportunity of a true spiritual path. More importantly, it costs them the opportunity of a real and meaningful relationship with God because God to them is something that they can learn to manipulate and use to their advantage to bestow earthly riches, happiness, and notoriety upon themselves. To them religion seems restrictive and obscure because they have become so unbalanced; dazzled by and addicted to the sensationalism and the false powers of New Age.

Indigo Children: It is a New Age belief that some children are born spiritually advanced and possess advanced abilities. These supposed abilities include ESP, psychic predictions, channeling and spiritual sight. The children are encouraged to develop and use these abilities at a young age. The encouragement and expectations of the parents creates frustration and confusion in their children. Some children pretend to have these abilities through making up stories to meet the expectations of their parents. Not only are the parent’s expectations unreasonable and unattainable, they compromise their children’s sense of reality and create a chasm between them and other children. Children understand the norms of society. The fact that their parent’s sense of reality is outside of the norm is confusing, embarrassing, and frightening. It makes the child insecure and distrusting of their parent’s ability to guide them and keep them safe, and it confuses and undermines the child's understanding and trust of God.

Soul Retrieval: The soul is impervious and sacrosanct, it cannot be fractured or scattered, as is taught in New Age. Even if such a thing could happen humans do not have the power and ability to reassemble a soul. Convincing a person that their soul is fragmented and pieces are missing compromises their sense of wholeness and well-being on the deepest levels and is always detrimental. False powers: For a person to convince another - and themselves - that they have the ability to collect and reconstruct a soul is naive at best and egocentric at worst.

Sending deceased people “to the Light”: There is a wide spread belief, especially among New Age people, that the deceased can become confused, lost or unwilling to move on to heaven. There are people who believe that they have the power to release deceased people from this situation and “send them to the light.” These are well meaning but misguided people. Common sense: If such situations existed and God were not capable of accomplishing the task with the deceased person during the time they are supposedly lost, what special powers would a person on earth possess to accomplish what they think God could not?  God sees each person to heaven upon their death.

Starseeds: Starseeds is a popular New Age belief. It states that some people are incarnated on earth from other planets. A “starseed” is supposedly someone who is spiritually advanced enough to come here from another planet to enlighten humankind. People who believe they are a starseed feel a need to be something beyond who they are. Deluding one’s self into believing they are an alien here from another planet is damaging psychologically and cannot be used to build a spiritual path upon.

Walk-ins: This concept was contrived by a person who claimed to channel aliens in the 1970/80s. The concept states that beings from another planet or another dimension can walk-in and permanently take over the body of a person on earth. The person supposedly vacates the body as in a death experience. Some people use this concept to convince themselves that they are someone other than who they are to have more self-esteem and self-importance. This is very much the same as people who believe they are “starseeds” but considerably more damaging psychologically because they seek to believe that the original personality has left their body permanently.

It is always detrimental both psychologically and spiritually to foster a false façade or a false understanding of yourself. Denying who you truly are and wearing a false façade demeans the integrity and continuity that you have with God.

DNA: It is a New Age teaching that humankind's DNA was tampered with by aliens early in earth’s history. Some New Age books state that aliens changed human DNA from 12 stand DNA to 2 strand DNA to diminish people into controllable slaves. It is believed that people have to restore their DNA back to 12 stand DNA to achieve spiritual enlightenment. A belief that DNA is somehow tampered with, inferior or inadequate creates negative psychological repercussions and calls into question the very makeup of the human body and mind. Life is based on 2 strand DNA. Human DNA is perfect and profound the way that God created it. It is false to teach that people have to attempt to change their very DNA to awaken spiritually or to reach higher levels of spiritual enlightenment.

Channeling Inanimate Objects: It has become a popular belief in the New Age community that one can channel inanimate objects such as crystals. Even more popular is the belief that people can channel the “personality” of the Earth. Inanimate objects such as crystals and planets do not have a consciousness. They are not self-aware and they cannot interact intellectually. The fact that people can convince themselves and others that they are “channeling” inanimate objects speaks volumes for the propensity of people to use their imaginations to convince themselves and others that they are channeling at all.

“Channeling” has become a fad. Many New Age people do not understand the difference between true spiritual inspiration through an open heart and mind to God and accessing their own subconscious mind and imagination.

Unfortunately, many people use channeling as a form of entertainment for themselves and others. Today anyone can self-publish a book or create a web site very inexpensively. There are no boundaries and the line between fact, fiction, and entertainment are almost non-existent. This situation has spawned thousands of books and tens of thousands of web sites about channeling “aliens” and higher dimensional beings. The result is a myriad of conflicting and nonsensical false information that has hindered tens of thousands of people. The sheer volume of false information can create the illusion that it has merit to some gullible people.

We ask serious spiritual seekers to go beyond illusionary beliefs. Once cleared of them your heart and mind can become attuned to what spiritual truth is and is not. Be willing to pick out fact from fiction. You cannot go anywhere on a spiritual path that is based in illusion. Fantasy and illusion are fun to play with and many people are seduced by them. This mistake can result in a temporary or permanent impediment on a spiritual path.

Perhaps one of the largest problems in the New Age is trying to mix alien myth with spirituality. Many New Age people are looking to the skies for a savior, believing that all of the answers lie in being taught great spiritual truths by aliens or "higher dimensional beings." They are substituting nonexistent “aliens” and other “beings” for God and true spiritual guidance. They are looking outward instead of inward, compromising their opportunity to be on a true spiritual path to satisfy the longing that they feel inside.

Aliens/UFOs and Channeling: Most New Age people believe that it is possible to channel "aliens." In the late 1800’s it became somewhat of a craze to say you “channeled” aliens from Mars, Venus and Saturn. As it was proven that there was no life on planets in our solar system the “channelers” in the following generations looked further into space for aliens to claim they channel.

Today most New Age people believe in and revere “Pleiadians,” “Acrurians” and “Sirians.”

The Pleiades are 400 light years away from the Earth. That means that traveling at the speed of Light it would take 400 years to travel there. Even if someone could travel at a million miles an hour it would still take over 268,272 years to go between the Earth and a star in the Pleiades. People who claim to channel “Pleiadians” contend that it takes them less than 30 minutes to make the trip to Earth.

The people who say they channel Pleiadians state that they are a much older society and far more advanced than people on Earth. They also teach that the “Pleiadians” are humankind's ancestors even though the Pleiades are still developing as a star system. There are numerous books about Pleiadians. People read the books and in turn contribute their own imaginative stories about the Pleiades and nonexistent “Pleiadians.” Now there is such a mass of false information that many New Age people take it for granted that they exist and that they can be channeled. Similar things can be said for Arcturus and Sirius. “Arcturians” and “Sirians” do not exist any more than “Pleiadians,”  "Marsans" or "Venusians."

Channeling Angels: Many New Age people believe they channel angels and that the angels repeat and add to all of the false New Age information. Angels cannot and would not “channel” anything that goes against God’s teachings or that would give a false sense of God. Angels are not allowed to take on the karmic responsibility of giving personal readings or making predictions for the world. Likewise, many New Age people claim to channel Jesus or God only to seemingly have them repeat New Age teachings to give the teachings a false sense of validity.

Photon Belt: The Photon Belt started out as a college student prank that was printed in a magazine. It was taken seriously by New Age people and elaborated on to an extremely large extent by people claiming to channel aliens. An entire nonsensical pseudo-science background has been developed to support the hoax. Thousands of New Age people accept the “fact” of a Photon Belt as absolute truth. The original date predicted for the earth to pass through the “Photon Belt” was 1992. The predicted dates are revised continuously with the non-occurrence of the event. It is said that when the earth passes through the “photon Belt” there will be five days of darkness, devastation to the Earth, no more electricity, mass UFO landings, photon energy conversion devices, psychic abilities for all humans, transformation of human bodies into higher dimensions, instantaneous enlightenment for humankind, the transformation of all animals on Earth and much more. Scientific data easily disputes the existence of a Photon Belt.

Crop Circles: Crop Circles are either hoaxes or on rare occasion natural occurrences of wind/weather conditions that have made an impression on an open field. Some people contend that they are alien contact. Others have proclaimed them spiritual or sacred communiqué. God and angels do not need to contact people through bent grass, they can speak directly to people’s hearts, the superconscious, and through inspiration and intuition.

Earth Changes: Much as been made about Earth Changes coinciding with spiritual enlightenment in the New Age community. There are no catastrophic disasters needed as a part of spiritual awakening, i.e. the predictions of Edgar Cayce and many others. Most of these predictions started with Edgar Cayce and other people have built upon them. Cayce’s sensational prophesies included the earth developing a third pole, the arrival of Armageddon, the earth's axis shifting and England and Japan sinking into the ocean. New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco destroyed by earthquakes and floods, a cosmic storm with winds of 1,000 miles per hour and tremendous swings in temperature killing hundreds of millions. Other sensational predictions involved a “death ray” from Atlantis being found and the island of Atlantis rising from the ocean floor. All of these predictions were prophesied to happen many years ago. For decades thousands of New Age people lived in fear of Cayce’s predictions. Since the timeframe for the predictions have expired they have less of an impact on people today. Unfortunately, other New Age doomsday “prophets” are creating new sensational threats for the earth, instilling fear in anyone who will take them seriously.

Nature Spirits: Many New Age people believe in fairies, sprites, elves, elementals, leprechauns, gnomes and nature spirits. Not only do they believe that they exist, but they believe that they all can be channeled. Myths of these creatures were originally created as a part of superstitious belief systems of ancient peoples. It can be fun for some people to think of them as existing, but in truth God has not placed tiny unseen spirits on the earth to take care of the flora and fauna. God supports the earth and all that God has created on the earth directly. Harboring a belief in illusionary creatures, good or evil, is immature and harmful to mental well-being, and it is not a part of a spiritual path. Internally people know what is reality and what is not. Tricking yourself into believing something that is not real confuses your subconscious mind and puts it at odds with your conscious mind, which can apply to most New Age teachings.

Crystals: Many New Age people believe that crystals have magical powers, including the powers of healing and protection, as well as a multitude of other assigned attributes. Using crystals like charms or convincing yourself that they have special powers is not only a false belief, but takes away from understanding and developing your own spiritual attributes in constructive and mature ways. Developing spiritual attributes and amending the belief that you can use crystals for healing or protection is much more important and conducive to a spiritual path than hiding behind the false powers of inanimate objects.

Curses and Spells: Humans are not capable of hurting each other with curses and spells. God does not give supernatural powers to people, let alone powers of inflicting harm. The only power of a curse or spell is in the power of suggestion. Victims have to believe in it and allow their beliefs and fears to control their life for a curse or a spell to have any power over them.

Mythical Lands: Atlantis, Lemuria and legends like them: From ancient times myths of magical lands have been a reoccurring theme in human story telling. It is a human psychological need to tell stories of advanced or heroic peoples living in perfect societies. These stories are told and retold over the millennia so that people can have hope for the future and confidence in humankind as a race. The stories are also used in hopes of establishing ideals from which to create perfect societies in the future. Atlantis and other legends of this kind are mythical.

Revering Ancient Civilizations: New Age encourages the revering of ancient civilizations by teaching that they held advanced spiritual understandings and magical powers. In fact, the civilizations they target to revere were very barbaric, paganistic societies that practiced human sacrifice and mercilessly slaughtered their enemies by the thousands. Holding a romantic and erroneous view of ancient pagan civilizations tends to make people think that paganism is valid, that it is acceptable to worship nature in place of God, and that pagan ritual is a part of a spiritual path.

Drugs: Through numerous books on the subject of taking drugs for "spiritual purposes" some people in New Age think that they can open their mind to God though the use of drugs; either drugs to help them relax to meditate, or hallucinogenic drugs to give them a sense that they are interacting in a different reality. No one can reach God through the use of drugs. A drug induced compromised mind does not have the capacity to interact with God. The person can only fool themselves more easily into believing an illusion while under the influence of drugs. The path to God has to be built on integrity and a clear mind and heart. It would be disastrous for God to send the message to humankind that the use of drugs or any other negative human attribute can be used as a means of spiritual enlightenment. God only allows conscious interactions with God through sincere efforts to open the heart and mind to God.

Integrity: There are New Age books that claim spiritual experiences, including experiences with Jesus and Mother Mary, that were later exposed as, or admitted by the authors as, fictional stories. These books are still on the market as true stories, and these people are still on the New Age circuit retelling the stories as if they were true, despite admitting that they have no basis in truth. Money, fame and adulation by adoring fans have obscured people's sense of integrity.  These authors and their books and workshops are spiritually retarding and compromising to the trusting and gullible people who believe in them. One cannot base their spiritual life on another person's sensational stories. A spiritual life can only be based on God and God's direct teachings.

New Age Healing: Many New Age healing methods are based on channeled materials, including channeled materials supposedly from "aliens." They teach the manipulation of people's chakras for purposes of healing. New Age states that chakras can be damaged, leak, diminished, out of balance or shut down and that auras can be cracked, damaged, drained, leak, and impinged upon or invaded by outside forces. New Age not only teaches that people have the ability to assess and fix all of these problems, but that they can do it without God by commanding the "universal life force." Fortunately, God  does not allow people any power or ability to interfere with another person's chakra system, so no harm can be done. It is a fallacy to teach that people have the knowledge, expertise, and ability to actually alter another person's chakras. Attempting to alter a person's chakras would be tantamount to a child attempting to operate on someone's brain and spinal cord. Eastern Religion teaches that chakras are integral to every part of the body, mind, and spirit and are regulated by God alone. Chakras are the circulatory system of divine energy that connect people directly to God and are the realm of God. They are not compromised or diminished with illness or injury to the body. God adjusts the chakra system to cope with physical, mental, and emotional challenges, and to support people through situations of adversity. New Age has taken the understanding of chakras out of the context of God's teachings in Eastern Religion and created their own mass of misinformation surrounding them, and now uses them to garner false powers. Most New Age healers, while well intentioned, are taught to call upon a "universal life force" (in place of God) to be channeled through them for the purposes of healing. They are taught to believe that they can control this "universal life force" to act upon the chakras of ill or injured people.

Bestowing False Powers: New Age people are taught to believe that they have the power to bestow the ability to control the "universal life force" upon another person (usually for a monetary sum).

There are multiple underlying detrimental problems related to New Age healing for both the "clients" and the "healer."

The Client: 1. The client is told and may come to believe that their chakra system is compromised through their illness or injury, eroding their self perception and confidence in their body to heal. 2. They may come to believe that they require a healer to "fix" the nonexistent deficiencies supposedly hindering their chakras in order for healing to take place, making them vulnerable and dependant.  3. The "healing work" may make the person feel less capable or worthy of working with God directly for true healing. 4. The teaching of a "universal life force" used for the healing may subconsciously compromise the person's innate spiritual understanding of God, producing (perhaps unrealized) feelings of betrayal of God. This can cause deep stress, inner confusion, and turmoil, further complicating their healing process instead of supporting it.

The Healer: 1. New Age healing is a double edged sword. On one side healers are often frustrated and demoralized spiritually when their healings have no effect. On the other side, if the person's health improves they assume false credit and delude themselves into believing they have the power to heal.  2. Responsibility: Even if it is expressed to a client that New Age healing does not take the place of medical intervention, convincing people that New Age healing is legitimate and real may compromise, confuse or taint a person's ability to make objective and timely decisions concerning their health and medical intervention. 3. Delusion: While seemingly innocent and well intentioned on the surface, it is self-delusional to believe that one has the power to heal another person with a misrepresentation of God  (a universal life force), or with crystals and other New Age "tools" and potions. It is also delusional to believe that one possesses the expertise, knowledge and ability to manipulate the chakra system. 4. The False Ego: It unconsciously feeds the false ego to repeatedly go through the motions of attempting to use false powers. Building a spiritual life (and livelihood) upon something other than God as God truly exists is futile, detrimental to one's self and others, and fraught with karmic lessons.

Note: People often respond well to caring and supportive touch and attention. This should never be misconstrued or mistaken for healing powers of New age methods.

The Earth Changing Dimensions and Vibration Rates: There is a popular New Age belief that the earth is changing dimensions or rising in spiritual vibration and those that do not raise their spiritual vibration will be left behind. In many instances the understanding of spiritual vibration is misunderstood or misused by the New Age movement. Dedicated individuals can raise their own personal spiritual vibration as they move along the path of spiritual enlightenment. Each person is supported by their chakra system and cocooned in their own energetic aura, making it possible to exist at a higher spiritual vibration, regardless of surrounding energies. The earth is home to everyone and God maintains the earth at a constant and consistent level of divine energy that is appropriate for all people. The earth does not need to rise into another dimension for humankind to become more spiritually enlightened.

A False Sense of Reality: The New Age fosters and encourages a false sense of reality. It not only encourages people to believe in a myriad of non-existent beings, but it convinces people that they are actually interacting with those imaginary beings. It compromises people's sense of self and pushes them into trying to live as something they are not, i.e. aliens from another planet in the form of starseeds and walk-ins.

False Powers: New Age encourages people to believe they have false powers through "magic" or through crystals and other charms. It teaches people to believe they have abilities of healing through bestowing the power on each other. New Age has a large propensity for continually inventing genera that give people a false sense of power and spirituality while circumventing God and God’s teachings.

People can become lost is the labyrinth of seductive teachings of false powers, fantasy, and non-responsibility. It is alluring to pick and choose your own personal “spiritual truths.” Unfortunately, New Age offers a mix of out of context, misunderstood, and abused spiritual concepts, ancient and neo pagan beliefs, and most notably and extensively, false "channeled" materials to choose from.

The Seduction of Words: Words can be seductive. Most New Age leaders write or speak with flowery words. They repeatedly describe what they are doing as spiritual and convince themselves and others that they are helping the world despite the fact the they are damaging people's sense of reality, undermining God's teachings, promoting selfish and egocentric beliefs and practices, taking away an essential acceptance of personal responsibility and holding people back from a true spiritual path. It is important to look beyond the words to what lies beneath. John Lennon's song "Imagine" speaks of bringing the world together in peace and brotherhood. What most people miss because of the pretty words and music is the fact that the song suggests achieving it through atheism and Marxism. It is essential to be discerning, and to be willing to closely examine what you are basing a spiritual life upon. People must always ask the question of how closely do teachings follow God's direct teachings through World Scripture.

Every true spiritual path returns people to God, and enables people to strive to regain and attain Divine Nature. All 8 World Religions teach that people are spiritual beings, created in the Image and Likeness of God. All the World Religions provide pathways to create a meaningful relationship and partnership with God that sustains people through the hardships and challenges of life. When God is diminished in people’s minds they become very insecure and less able to cope with life because their Foundational Relationship with God is eroded. A true Spiritual Path is predicated on building a Core Foundational Relationship with God.

New Age information and Discernment concerning Melchizedek
and the Order of Melchizedek

The Order of Melchizedek is directly from God. It was created by and is sustained through the Trinity of God. Melchizedek was an incarnation of the Holy Spirit. To be ordained into the Order of Melchizedek is a sacred trust and must not be diminished or tarnished by misinformation.

Melchizedek and the Order of Melchizedek have become very popular in the New Age community. Unfortunately, many times they are misunderstood, misrepresented and abused.

The Urantia Book mentions Melchizedek over 230 times and attributes many teachings in the book to Melchizedek. This book can be traced to the New Age communities' interest in Melchizedek and the Order of Melchizedek. Unfortunately many New Age books, wittingly or unwittingly, by repeating information they do not know the source of, base what they teach about Melchizedek on this book. The Urantia Book was written in the early 1900’s and published in 1955. It was written by a group of disenchanted Seventh Day Adventists in competition/answer to Seventh Day Adventist leader Ellen White’s outlandish prophecies and claims of being in contact with aliens from our solar system. The Urantia Book includes many of the Seventh Day Adventist’s basic beliefs mixed with extremely sensational false information about the history of the earth, Satan, and alien beings. Some of the most objectionable teachings in the Urantia Book are racist and separatist.

Note: Seventh Day Adventists teachings focus highly on Satan, Armageddon, the Antichrist, the “end times”, the USA as the leading country under Satan’s influence during the end times, and the evilness of the Pope and the Catholic Church.

Here is a small sampling of racist quotes from the Urantia Book.

Quote: Civilization is in danger when youth neglect to interest themselves in ethics, sociology, eugenics*, philosophy, the fine arts, religion, and cosmology.”
*Eugenics: the study of methods of improving genetic qualities by selective breeding, especially as applied to humans.

“unrestrained multiplication of inferiors, with decreasing reproduction of superiors, is unfailingly suicidal of cultural civilization”

“The indigo [Black] race was moving south in Africa, there to begin its slow but long-continued racial deterioration.”

In regard to eugenics: “The difficulty of executing such a radical program on Urantia [Earth]consists in the absence of competent judges to pass upon the biologic fitness or unfitness of the individuals of your world races." "Notwithstanding this obstacle, it seems that you ought to be able to agree upon the biologic disfellowshiping of your more markedly unfit, defective, degenerate, and antisocial stocks”.

“reproduction is regulated in accordance with planetary requirements and innate hereditary endowments: The mortals on a planet during this age are divided into from five to ten groups, and the lower groups are permitted to produce only one half as many children as the higher. The continued improvement of such a magnificent race throughout the era of light and life is largely a matter of the selective reproduction of those racial strains which exhibit superior qualities of a social, philosophic, cosmic, and spiritual nature”.  [These ideas were popular in the times of Hitler and were the goals of Hitler and his political party.]

“It is neither tenderness nor altruism to bestow futile sympathy upon degenerated human beings, unsalvable, abnormal and inferior mortals.”

“The church, because of overmuch false sentiment, has long ministered to the underprivileged and the unfortunate ... leading to the unwise perpetuation of racially degenerate stocks.”

“The selective elimination of inferior human strains will tend to eradicate many mortal inequalities.”

End of a selection of racist quotes from the Urantia Book.

These hateful teachings have all been associated with Melchizedek through the Urantia Book. Most New Age people choose to disregard the racism, but accept the other outlandish teachings as true. The Urantia Book is in no small way at the root of why people believe that they can channel and receive spiritual information from aliens. In the 1970’s and 80’s many people took their cue from the Urantia Book to imaginatively create their own “alien connection” which has resulted in a multitude of contrived “spiritual teachings” that have proliferated to this day.

It Is Time To Restore Integrity And Sacredness To The Order of Melchizedek

Many popular New Age misconceptions and teachings diminish the understanding of Melchizedek and the Order of Melchizedek. One very popular New Age person teaches that Melchizedek is just a title and that there are multiple intergalactic “Melchizedeks” throughout the universe and claims that he is a “walk-in” of one of the Melchizedeks. Another man who has ordained thousands of people teaches that he is the only person on earth authorized to ordain in the Order of Melchizedek. He ordains people on the spot, including young children, without benefit of the requirement that they know who Melchizedek is or anything about the Sacred Order they are being ordained into. Yet another very prominent New Age leader writes that he bases his teachings of Melchizedek and the Order of Melchizedek on three things: The Urantia Book, another popular New Age book based in part on the Urantia Book, and the teachings of a woman who claims she is a 300 year old princess of an underground race of people.

Unfortunately, these types of teachings permeate the New Age understanding of Melchizedek and the Order of Melchizedek. Sadly, many New Age people seek to be ordained into the Order based on New Age frivolity and fantasy and not with a serious commitment to a dedicated Spiritual Path with God in service to humankind. We cannot stress enough how important it is to be discerning about what you accept as spiritual teachings, especially concerning God, Melchizedek, and the Sacred Order of Melchizedek.
